When entering a W2 it says box 16 state, wages if different. That box should just say State Wages and actually show the amount that was carried from Federal. I don't like that it doesn't show the actual amount. Then you can choose whether or not you need to override. When checking a return, it is easier to review a return when show the actual amount that was carried forward. Also, not really a "feature" but on the W2, put all of the state info together. You enter in the state withholdings in one spot, then scroll down a lot to enter in the State name and ID. Then there is an override spot for state wages, income, and tax withheld. It's confusing and weird. Why are there 2 spots to enter boxes 16-19 on the state?
We need to be able to create and/or print a "hold" slip for clients we are currently working on that we still need information/tax docs to finish. That hold slip we print should have the client information listed (name, SSN, DOB, Spouse, email, phone numbers, etc) with a spot to type a reason of what the returns needs to finish.
The ability to have a keyword for the Bank Name and maybe the last 4 digits of the account number would be helpful to add to the Client Letter. This populates on the Financial Transaction Summary but it would be nice to have that right on the client letter for clients to easily check.
Great experience is solving a problem regarding a corporate state return issue!
At this time you have to put in a "negative" date instead of the word various. Just allow us to use the word various and will will select if it is long-term or short-term.
We need two description boxes for the 8949. You can't fit everything that might need to be stated regarding the sale of the stock, property, etc on one line. If you can see by my screen shot. There is room on the 8949 to add the ability for another description that can fit underneath the first one. As you can see: It says Prudential Stock 2660 L. There is a whole blank space underneath that can be utilized to give more of a description so you are not running into the other lines for different information. This is the first software I've used that I've not been able to take advantage of all the empty space.
Ability to have a brokerage statement input screen that you can enter all the data from the brokerage statement on screen and the system carry it to the correct forms.
On the quick entry screen for all income that comes with account numbers (e.g. interest, dividends, stock, retirement/pensions, etc). Have a box for account number for the company the client has the accounts with. Several clients have multiple accounts with the same companies. It would be great for the order of the boxes: Dividend Quick Entry Screen Example <Name of Payer <Taxpayer or Spouse> <Account #>. This way you see it at first glance instead of having to slide the scroll bar or hit details.
CA Form 3519 is an extension for individual taxpayers. The amount of the payment that Lacerte populates in this form does not include any ISR or underpayment penalties, so when you generate this extension and you want your client to be paid up for the year, you have to override the field in Screen 9. The software states that it "defaults to amount due". This is incorrect and misleading. The amount due includes ISR penalties and underpayment penalties, but the amount that defaults to Form 3519 is only the tax. This is very misleading to the client and practicioner because a payment is made on extension and then when the return is filed addtional amounts are due. Please update the software to populate the actual amount due on Form 3519 or update the field name to say "defaults to amount of tax due, penalties are not included".
While working on a client's return, another client calls regarding return under preparation. One will have to close the current file to open a new file for a few minutes of review, close the file after consultation to go back to the other return under preparation. Am I making any sense?
