Make it far easier to navigate Form 6250 entries with direct access screens from a Form 6250 entry screen. There are only a few lines requiring entries, so it ought to be easy, up at present it is very difficult. My requirement links to the Partnership Returns.
Currently, to set up a state quarterly estimate in Efile Pending, you have to go to the Accepted Efile that lists the prior quarter's filing, then go into that taxpayer's file (where each of the quarterly estimates have been set up), then into the state, then exit into EFILE, then go onto the next taxpayer. Rather cumbersome if you have many clients paying state estimates electronically.Instead, why not just list the next quarterly payment in the Pending EFILE. When transmitted and accepted, automatically bring up the next payment in the Pending EFILE list. Put whatever restrictions on it that you please (can't transmit until 30 days before due date). In this way, you can still change the amounts if you want but it will take only 1 minute to transmit rather than setting up and transmitting which can take a half hour if not more.
California DOJ Form RRF-1 Mandatory electronic filing is in force. The Tax-Exempt Client Letter requires updating to E-Filing wording to be in compliance with this mandate. An override box to mark if the client can not e-file, to change the client letter only to Paper/Mail in filing instructions. This box could be on Screen 72.011, California Attorney General Report RRF-1 top section. It would be great if Lacerte could facilitate the electronically filing of this form, if you can consider it, you could solve this problem systemically.Thank you,Steve
The Schedule B should have an input field for Section 199A Dividends; and Form 8995 should allow the user to input, the amounts for Qualitied REIT dividends and properly carry over the result to Form 1040.
One thing I really liked in Drake was when you opened a return the notes you had left would pop up and you had to close them out to get to working on the return. This was a great reminder of the status of the return and to clean up the notes when things had been worked through.
Currently under tax returns, it has federal efile status, state efile status, and extension efile status, but no amended return status. We need to have that added.FEDERAL EFILE STATUS STATE EFILE STATUS EXTENSION EFILE STATUS -- Click https://accountants.intuit.com/community/proconnect-tax-idea-exchange/idea-for-intuit-to-keep-track-of-open-issues/idi-p/301766 to vote FOR the idea if you need to report and keep track of Intuit software defects.
I think that it would be helpful for there to be a Diagnostic message for all files (locked or unlocked) that indicates what numbers, if any, have changed in the file as a result of a Lacerte version update. Currently, you cannot easily see what (if anything) was changed unless you manually compare the numbers in the version of the return from before the update (e.g., if you saved the return as a PDF, or had locked the file in Lacerte prior to the update) vs. the return as it currently shows in Lacerte. For background: When Lacerte pushes out a version update, any files / returns that are unlocked could potentially have numbers that are changed as a result of the update (depending on what the version update entailed). When you've locked a return, you will see a generic diagnostic message saying that the client file is locked and tax return amounts are now protected from being modified due to updates to the program. This diagnostic appears on all locked files, but it does not give any specifics around what numbers would change in the return as a result of version updates. Instead, to see what has changed, Lacerte recommends that we make a copy of the return, unlock that copy, then manually review the cover letter and tax summaries to see if there are any differences. This is very time-consuming and can result in a lot of duplicate client files. Additionally, when a file is locked, you cannot even change the status of it without unlocking it -- which means (for example) that if we have a file that is in the stage of "Awaiting 8879" or "Awaiting Acknowledgments by IRS and/or state", but then Lacerte pushes out an update that impacts numbers in the return before we are able to move it to "Final" status, the return that we have in Lacerte may no longer align with the return that was filed with the IRS and/or state, since we have to unlock the return to move it into "Final" status (at which point any number changes as a result of Lacerte updates could be pushed through).
It would be helpful to see the exact details of what has changed in Lacerte following a program update.I've seen that there is an existing Discussion Board thread (2024 Lacerte Tax Program Update is Live and Available for Download (Updated 08/20/2025) - Page 2 - Intuit Accountants Community) but the details in there are very sparse. I've also noticed that these posts sometimes do not include all the changes that were made to the program as a result of a program update (e.g., the OBBBA-related updates were pushed out in the 45.0806 version -- but the Discussion Board does not include this in the list of things that were changed with the 45.0806 version).I think having a dedicated place for a repository of the Lacerte versions and the detail of what was changed in the version update would be very helpful.
When Intuit first upgraded the client search feature to the 'Find Client' method....it was amazing. Infact, I use it all the time. So much, that I wish the little search box was permanent in every Home Base View, instead of having to click the "find client" button for it to appear. Is that a possibility???
In Settings > Options > Setup > allow for a default daytime phone number to be Mobile Phone, just as we can set a New Client Default Preparer
