Payroll (or other income) tax withholding analysis to help clients better understand why they always owe each year.Discussion ongoing

I have always tried to show my clients why they have a tax balance due.  For some it is a mystery and demoralizing to always owe money each year.  I have created my own Payroll Tax withholding analysis spreadsheet to analyze current year, and prior year(s) so that they can see where the weakness is.  Sometimes it's their own paycheck, sometimes it's their spouse.  Sometimes, it due to a job change and they didn't understand the impact of their choice on their Form W4.For years, I have used the Federal two-year comparison to show trends, changes, and individual components that make up their total tax calculation.  It has been a great help, clients love it and I believe it helps me stand out in helping my clients see me as a valued advisor, instead of just a data input. This year, I have gone one step further.  I use the Pro Series W2 Payroll Summary, 1099 Summary, and other relevant income sources as input to show them how each of their income sources is either withholding enough or drastically coming up short.   It's a pretty simple excel spreadsheet and many clients are thanking me for helping them better understand their payroll tax withholding rates vs their tax return effective rate, so they can better understand and fix their withholding weak spots.  This tax w/h report is now one of my most requested reports from my clients.  They want to take home and use it to correct their Form W4.I would be glad to show you an example if interested. It's late, and I'm tired, not sure if I have explained this concept very well.

taxypayer download docs/documents in bulkDiscussion ongoing

Some clients/taxpayers do not keep a record of all docs submitted to CPA's through Intuit Link. Intuit Link from the taxpayer's portal does not provide an option to download all files/responses/To Do's in bulk but it is my understanding that the CPA can. I have spent so much time searching Intuit's articles and googling a way for a taxpayer to download in bulk on their own; I have called Intuit and clicked on all the links they provided and they are either clueless or won't tell me that this is not an option. Is this option available for taxpayers? If yes, where/how? If no, please add it! It seems like such a simple option that should have been available by now. Please make it easier to find a response! The phone menu does not even mention Intuit Link (to reroute the call) and the rep I spoke with on the phone had no idea how to get in touch with a Link expert. This would be a great feature for taxpayers to do this on their own as CPA's are sometimes really hard to get a hold off for small issues like this and it can be a lot of work (specially if taxpayers have been clients for several years) to request that the CPA provide all documents.  PLEASE NOTE: I did try the "download my data" feature but the information that Intuit provided is useless/random letters that comes in an incomprehensible zip file without my tax documents and without any instructions as to what the purpose of this 'data' is.
