diagnostic warning that PTE for is not complete.
We need a critical diagnostic that PTE input is not correct or maybe incomplete when there is any data that looks like we intended to both put in PTE payments actually made and most importantly that shareholders or members were not selected who elected to have PTE payments made for them.
Twice now I put in actual PTE payments made but did not check the box for the shareholder so guess what no PTE credit on the K-1 and the S Corp got the refund.
The S and LLC tax return letter provides for only the first PTE payment, should provide for two payments and there should be a schedule of payments just like there is for estimated payments and the date for payment should be Dec 31.
there should be a diagnostic that not all members or shareholders election box was checked and a diagnostic to allocate the ordinary income and the PTE credit to the correct shareholders --actually the software should do this allocation automatically.
Personal returns should have a diagnostic that warns not all PTE was used in the year and taxpayer should be warned to possibly stop their election in next year so as not to end up with unused PTE at end of 2025
A diagnostic on personal return that last year there was PTE and this year should be checked that the credit was incorrectly not input from the K-1. Made that mistake also-had to amend the personal return
