Add an expandable filter on the left side of the main screen called eSignature Status.Position above Federal e-file Status and include the values including Sent, Voided, Completed, etc. Also, consider adding a view above the filter section for eSig Clients.
When clients elect to have refunds deposited to their bank account or amounts due automatically withdrawn, allow partial bank information -- bank name and last four digits of the account -- to be displayed in the return cover letter. Ideally this should also be an option in eSignature.
A number of our clients have received unexpected and unexplained refunds from the IRS. Even when the news is positive, some clients draw an inference that is our mistake. We review the numbers and explain that the underpayment penalty on their return is an estimate and the IRS has the final say. We also say that, despite following IRS guidelines and using their interest rates, there are a number of factors that impact how the penalty is calculated. All this consumes valuable and expensive time.Going forward, why not reword Underpayment Penalty to read "Estimated Underpayment Penalty" or "Underpayment Penalty (Estimated)"? The same can be said for any penalty Lacerte calculates. Perhaps an * (asterisk) can be used to denote that penalties are estimated. The taxing authority determines the actual penalty and will notify of any changes.
I had a request that we add a suggestion when it comes to electronic payments. If the program notices there is a bank account on file and there is boxes indicated for estimated tax or payment due, but the box to withdraw electronic for that category isn't checked that we throw some kind of note.
When you enter the detailed depreciation screen from quick entry you're always in the first tab, but your last used tab is highlighted so the program thinks you're on the highlighted tab when you're not.As a result, you can't click the highlighted tab and must first click one of the other tabs and then the tab you want.Example:You click details to leave depreciation quick entryProconnect displays the Depreciation tab, but the Auto and Additional Info tab is highlightedYou want to be in the Auto and Additional info tab, but can't click it because it's highlighted in error; the program thinks you're there alreadyNow you must click one of the other tabsThen you can click into the Auto and Additional info tabThis means a lot of unnecessary clicking just to Navigate depreciation - which is tough enough already.
I have a problem that some clients send me payments to my physical address instead of my PO Box. The IRS forces us to use the firm address on the tax forms. I don't see why Lacerte is forcing us to use the same firm address on the invoice. As mentioned in description above, the letter allows us to change the heading. Please allow us to edit the invoice heading.
When printing from the partial return screen, I'd like to print only "regular" depreciation, NOT "regular summary," "AMT" or "book" depreciation. Right now, it prints all the depreciation items possible. What a waste of paper. Please make it so we can print JUST the one "regular" depreciation schedule without having to print from the "print form" screen. Fed AND state, please.
The input for First time homeowners credit did not proforma over to 2023. Only way we found out was the efile got rejected for not including it
We are uncertain that we are getting the correct result on Form IA PTE-C. Perhaps additional instructions on entry would help. Would you ask your programmers to review this program?
This form is only relevant if the underlying entity has net taxable income. If the underlying entity shows a loss on its Kentucky PTE, then this form should be omitted.
On the Kentucky PTE form, which is used for partnerships, LLCs and S corporations, there is a problem with distributions. No matter what the Federal tax return might show for cash distributions to each K-1 recipient, what Proseries does on the Form PTE K-1 line 21 is to allocate total distributions prorata to each recipient based on their ownership percentage. That may work for S corporations, where distributions are supposed to follow ownership percentages, but for partnerships and LLCs, it often happens that distributions do not match ownership percentages. What a surprise it is to have Proseries create the Kentucky PTE tax return, and have the cash distributions differ on the KY return from what is shown on the Federal return. This is a big problem (The first two items above are just annoying. This one actually causes an error to occur.) It requires the tax preparer to either use a special allocation on the K-1 Worksheet, or to override the amount that Proseries calculates for distributions on each K-1. What Proseries should do is just match the distributions to each K-1 recipient as shown on the Federal tax return.
Kentucky has a Form KW-2 which recaps W-2 income and withholding. It is intended to print as the final page of a KY 740 personal tax return. But Proseries takes this ‘last page’ too literally and causes Form KW-2 to be the very last page printed of ANY set of Kentucky tax returns. So if the Kentucky taxpayer happens to have a Kentucky Single Member LLC, which requires Form 725 to be created, then Proseries will show Form 740 followed by Form 725, and then Proseries shows Form KW-2 at the very end. Instead, Form KW-2 needs to be inserted as the last page of Form 740, not the very last page of all Kentucky tax forms. As currently configured, Form KW-2 is out of place.
