Please set up ability to freeze invoice dates as default. It is now possible to assign an unchangeable invoice date on each individual return but, not possible to freeze all as default.

Reduce PDF sizeDiscussion ongoing

PDF files printed by Lacerte are ridiculously large.  A 1 page e-filing confirmation letter is 1 MB, which Acrobat can reduce down to  12k.  When you have a lot of clients, and are emailing out 1 MB at a time, it really eats up email server space.  And a tax return reduces down 10x when I optimize in Acrobat.If Acrobat can optimize and make these files 10-100x smaller, so can Lacerte.

I think the masking features are brilliant, but they do not go far enough. There should be a masking feature included for the account and routing numbers for payment and refund. The SSN is not the only identifying number that could cause a significant breach in client security.

It would be really helpful on a multi state return if you had the ability to assign the entire input screen to a particular state, rather than having to go line by line and assign individual lines to the state. It's too easy that way to miss something and have the allocation wrong. In lacerte you can assign the entire schedule c entry to the state you want, and it's so much better.

Add notification when numbers are changed on a return after it has been e-filed.Discussion ongoing

Add a notification to the Homepage if numbers on a return have changed after it has been e-filed, rather than only having the notification pop-up when you open the return. Once a return has been e-filed, there is often no reason to go back into that return, but if something changes in tax law or a system update corrects internal calculations, the only way we can find out about these changes is when we open the return, and if there is no reason for us to open the return we will never catch the correction which means we have no ability to correct it until the client gets a letter from the Feds or State notifying us of a correction.

E-filing 2020 1040-XDiscussion ongoing

Your software used to allow me to e-file 2020 1040-X's, even if I didn't e-file the original.  I did this with multiple 1040-X's on the 2020 software.  However, with an update, it no longer allows this option, and in the EF Center, it just has "Federal Return" not "Federal Amended" under Return Type.  Can someone please fix this?  Make sure it is for 2020.

The Massachusetts HC form (health insurance)  is cumbersome and time consuming to enter data from year to year. Where most taxpayers insurance information doesn't often change, it would be great if the previous years info transferred automatically each year as does other client data when the new years program is installed.

We have clients who have Schedule Es under LLCs that operate in New York State. Unfortunately, ProSeries does not currently auto-populate an IT-204-LL for Sch E LLCs. They do populate the IT-204-LL for NYS Sch C LLCs, so this feature would be greatly helpful for Sch E LLCs. The check box on the Sch C to populate the IT-204-LL allows this for CA, NYS, TN, and TX. For Sch E’s, the only states that it will populate are CA and TX.

Is it possible to create folders within the documents section of LINK?  It would be nice to have this feature so you can label the folder and populate it with specific information.  Currently, you can just add files and they are loaded into LINK with no ability to segregate them into folders  For those who choose not to create folders, they can continue to use LINK as they do today.  Also, is there any way for LINK to notify the preparer when clients open documents?  I'd like to be made aware when a client accesses a document I've uploaded for them.

Please add Form 8697 "Interest Computation Under the Look-Back Method for Completed Long-Term Contracts"Discussion ongoing

Form 8697 should be added to your software because anyone who is an owner in a construction company that reports income on the percentage of completion method or completed contract method will have to deal with the look-back period interest for contracts that span two or more years.  We have clients that have to deal with this issue and not having Form 8697 supported by ProSeries causes the ineligibility for the federal tax return to be filed electronically and therefore certain states can no longer be filed electronically.  We can't imagine that this is not a wide-spread issue -- there are many individuals who have this issue -- there are many construction companies who have long-term construction contracts.

Special character text entered in suggestions is displayed back within the application as HTML ampersand codes, such as the ampersand showing as ampersandamp and a non-breaking space showing up as ampersandnbsp. Not very graceful.

Federal and State "Electronic Filing Client Status History" Report - Print to PDFNew

These reports contain the submission IDs for both Federal and state filings of the returns, extensions and submissions in general.  It would be helpful if those reports could be printed:  (1) to PDF; and (2) as part of the Preparer Copy of the return when the return is printed to PDF.

We need capacity to do more queries or better yet, a means for us to query with our own selected criteria. The current query feature has a limited list and so does Homebase (from which we can add fields and then sort to find clients with certain forms or situations in their returns.)With tax laws changing retroactively (e.g., 2020 changes that impact on 2018 and 2019) and protective claim situations (e.g., recent case affecting clients with NII and shared responsibility payment), we need to be able to identify these clients.I wish I could recall for what I was recently looking... there were two different queries that I needed that were not available via Query or Homebase.

A worksheet that would allow us to enter real estate tax, mortgage interest, utilities, etc and allocate a percentage to the 8829, Schedule E, Schedule F, Schedule A, 2106, and UPE would be wonderful. I am constantly in Excel figuring this out. And the real estate tax is circular in the 8829, ie: if you are itemizing put the figure here, if you are taking the standard deduction put it here, but we have always put the figure in on the 8829 and then if the Schedule A is a moot issue, the program uses the standard deduction.
