I have a client who is a partnership of a larger partnership. Last year, they did business in 20 states, thus requiring me to file 20 state tax returns and do the apportionment accordingly. It would be very helpful, and a tremendous time saver, if ProSeries allowed me to put in the percentage that is allocable to each state, rather than requiring me to manually calculate all income and expense items to generate the state tax return. Also, because the income is subject to apportionment, I will have numerous errors on the state returns if all states are like Arkansas. While I know how to file a return with errors, I prefer not to need to file a return with errors.
The form in section II has the option to do a direct debit/deposit. The program gives no options to indicate that it will be electronically withdrawn. I have a client who would like to see that options implemented.
There appears to have been a change put through on error #6587 whereas I was able to e-file a client 1040 return with this email under critical diagnostic warnings on 09/20/23 and then when I went to amend the return two days later on 09/22/23, I could no longer e-file with this warning and had to upload the 7203. I get the reason for this change but this should not be pushed through in the middle of filing season as it invites the situation where the tax preparer has to go back to the client to ask for information that I don't have, only two days after filing the actual return! It's ridiculous. If you are going to change things like this, the change should be made after the actual filing season after 10/15.
On the IA 1041 program, is there any way Lacerte can expand the length of the characters for plugging in the tax preparer/attorney address? The number of characters is so few that I have to shorten my mailing address. It is to this address that the tax collector sends the Iowa income tax acquittance, which is a necessary document to close a probate estate or a non-probate trust. I have had at least one of these tax acquittances go missing because the abbreviated postal address I had to input was mis-read by the tax collector. It would just make sense to be able to provide a complete mailing address to the tax collector.
Currently I can only select files locally (which I have download) to be attached the return under e-file PDF/Miscellaneous input field. My idea is to be able to select from cloud (such as Google drive). A case in question is the 1099-B forms where you use the summary format.Currently W-2's and other input documents can be selected directed from cloud to be scanned, so the technology is already there, so it is just an effort to extend the extend this to other input fields.
Not all the "ideas" on this board are enhancements, some are pure bugs. While you can implement enhancements by popularity, for bugs, even they are not popular, need to be fixed. Please create a bug board. While there is an email we can send bugs, but we do not know if a bug has been reported, or a workaround is available. Besides 99 times out of 100 I do not get a response.--Click this link to vote. Like many good things in life, we have to fight for them.
