Currently, 1040 filing instructions for estimates do not include an option to pay at irs.gov. Please add these as a default to the filing instructions, along with the option to pay with a voucher. At least with California, we can indicate to use webpay. This is provided in a check-box in the program. However, no information is provided as to where to go online. All it says is "Use the FTB's webpay." Why not send them to the website?
PROVIDE THE ABILITY TO PRINT ALL PAYMENT COUPONS IN THE RETURN FROM THE PRINT SCREEN LIKE PRINTING ALL THE EF SIGNATURE FORMS INTO 1 PDF FILE FOR FEDERAL AND ALL STATE RETURNS. THIS FUNCTION WOULD SAVE A LOT OF TIME SO YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO GO INTO THE STATE RETURN AND THEN PRINT THE SELECTED FORM AND THEN HAVE TO SELECT THE PAYMENT/FILING PAYMENT COUPON FOR EACH STATE.
I live in an area where there is a higher than normal elderly population. Id love to see a button added or something as to how it can easily swap the taxpayer and spouse when one passes (even MFS when it occurs) to allow a more efficient tax return. as of now, its a mess to do and haven't found an easy way.
The Client Snapshot view should provide information on any federal or state refund / amount due. Currently, the Snapshot only provides the federal and primary state information. If additional states are part of the return, provide the status of those states as well.
Currently, we can transfer a QuickBooks sole proprietorship or sole member LLC to Proconnect through prep for taxes. But it's seriously limited. QuickBooks will create a Schedule C, but only in a new return or a return with the same name as the business. This doesn't help us in joint returns or even single returns where the client has a new LLC and we want to get the QuickBooks P&L into a Schedule C in their personal return. This is important because there can be all sorts of info and carryover data in the personal return. If we have to recreate, it's more trouble than manually entering the P&L into a Sch C.Two possible fixes:1. Handle this the way Proconnect handles business return K-1s:Create a Schedule C export table in QBOLet us select that for import into whatever 1040 we choose2. Alternatively, we need to be able to push the QBO P&L to a schedule C in any 1040 we select - new or existing. If the 1040 has an existing Sch C, we should be prompted to update it or create a new one.If no Sch C exists in the 1040, QuickBooks would push one in.That's what we need if there's going to be any value to prep for taxes with small businesses.
When importing 1099R and other allowable documents, it misses some fields like State, it is not complete upload of all information on the document.
When I print my client’s filing copy, client copy, and preparer copy, I select Mask Sensitive Data for the client copy. However, Form 8879 is not masked, which seems counter-intuitive. How do I send the client home with a masked copy to prevent identity theft? When the client is in front of me, and I want them to sign Form 8879, I can print it from the preparer copy or by Print Selected Forms, which is not masked. The way it is now, if I want the client copy to be masked, I need to take a black marker and redact the first five numbers of the social. My suggestion for enhancement is if I select Mask Sensitive Data for my client copy, all sensitive information will be masked.
please get this calculation automated. CCH and Ultra tax sales reps tell me their programs do this calculation
Fix the programming to allow business extensions to be e-filed without entering W-2s, prior year income, or unchecking the box to e-file the original return. W-2s were required in 2023 and now prior year income, fix the programming to the 2022 version that allowed extensions to be filed without all the extras that aren't reported on the extension form.
In California, when business entities pay by check and submit a voucher, the state will assess them a whopping 10% penalty. For individuals the penalty is 1%. The problem is that Lacerte continues to print payment vouchers when, if used, the client will get an immediate 10%/1% penalty. The state has also not been abating these penalties. My wild idea is this. Lacerte development team... when we preparers mark the box that the client is subject to mandatory epay. PLEASE DO NOT PRINT THE PAYMENT VOUCHERS FOR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF TO PRINT OUT FOR CLIENTS TO USE. I can not tell you how many times i have gotten the call "well your staff gave me the voucher and i used it"This is an issue for corporate and s-corporate modules, but there may be other modules that are ignoring the mandatory epay rule in California.
When 1099s are entered, they do not transfer to a schedule. Please make the ability for entered 1099s to link to a schedule C or F
Under Tools -> Options -> General -> Field Background Color, there is an option to "Show Previous Tax Year Color", a great tool to remind the user that he/she may be working on a prior year file. However, this setting should apply to the Home Base as well. If the Home Base were a different color, it would remind the user of the prior year software, very helpful if you have two years open.
