I have never run into this situation before much less this late in the game.Have a couple that is not sure if they wish to file MFJ or MFS.  One spouse wants to just file MFS to have the return done. They want to know if they can file Extension MFJ then file the return MFS after the fact? or should the one spouse file MFS, pay their liability with the other spouse filing Extension MFS but if it is decided they will file MFJ can they?Per 4868:  If you and your spouse each filed a separate Form 4868 but laterfile a joint return for 2022, enter the total paid with both Forms 4868on the appropriate line of your joint return. If you and your spouse jointly file Form 4868 but later file separatereturns for 2022, you can enter the total amount paid with Form4868 on either of your separate returns. Or you and your spousecan divide the payment in any agreed amounts.I believe Extension MFS but later file MFJ and vice versa are valid options, but we are all over worked right now but

I live in a county in California that qualifies for disaster relief. I already filed my 2022 tax returns. Do I have until October 16 to make tax payments?

my client received this for her taxes (below). She puts money in this IRA with her self employment salary and say's she told the bank she would like to pay the taxes every year. Is there a certain place I need to add this? Do I need to remove this from her total income? How is she to pay the taxes on this or do I even need to add this?

I have a customer that has a letter received that is a repayment of STD. Where is the proper place to add this to?

My client is a single member LLC filing schedule C.  He as an individual owns the building he runs his LLC out of.  Can the LLC deduct the rent on schedule C and claim on schedule E? Thank you

In the settlement, the client received 2/3 and the attorney received 1/3. Can the client deduct that 1/3 on his schedule C.  The client got 1/3 as a W2 and the second 1/3 on a 1099 NEC which drives a schedule C

Has anyone else seen this situation? 2020 Form 1040. Some payments made with husband’s SSN, a couple payments made with wife’s SSN. Return filed on time and full paid. Out of a clear blue sky, IRS sends notice last week for balance due of five-figure amount, including interest and penalty. The payments not being credited are those made with wife’s SSN. Checking online account for both spouses, all payments show up, and applied to 2020.

t/p purchased two rental properties 08/22.    Did not have renter income but expenses in 2022.  Can t/p claim these expenses on Sch E?

My client's residence is in Kansas, and he worked in Missouri a few times throughout the year. Nonresident. I am adding the state to the pro series basic, but I feel something is wrong, and the amounts are not allocated correctly. I enter Kansas as a full resident and Missouri as a non-resident, but when I review the states Missouri adjusted gross income is all the income reported on all w2s. Is this correct?

I have **bleep**?

I see the light and I'm moving toward it.  It may be  a train, but at this point it would be welcome. In all seriousness, thanks very much to all those who take the time out of their busy schedules to answer questions on this forum.  It's a great resource and a community made-up of highly experienced professionals.  I very much appreciate the opportunity to come here if I have a need and to share if I know the answer.  While I'm not completely done, I'm close and wanted to take a minute to extend my good wishes to all of you.  See you over the summer.  🙂

In July, 2018, Tesla sold and delivered more than 200,000 electric vehicles in the US, as a result, the $7,500 IRS tax credit that buyers were eligible for is no longer valid. I know the rules are changing for 2023, however if a client purchased a Tesla in October, 2022, according to what I've read, they can not take the credit for tax year 2022. Said client, said "all my friends are taking it!"   Hear that  a lot!

I read that if a couple files MFJ, and makes more than $300,000, they are not eligible for the EV credit.  I read other places where it says there is not a limit.

I don't know if any of you are on the same schedule Intuit has for me, but I cannot believe with a due date on April 18 for most they would ask me to change my password today?   It's just incredible.  Ask me on May 1 or something to change my p

Hi Intuit Community, A client filed his taxes on time and requested an ITIN for his dependent.  The ITIN application was rejected.  Does it mean the client filed on time, or is this considered late because the new ITIN application was rejected?Thank you for your feedback!Ro

Taxpayer had received K-1's for a rental property held in a family trust, for several years.  Each year created a passive loss carryover on the TP's 1040.  In 2022, the last member of the Family Trust passed away and the Trust ended.  It distributed the rental property to the last beneficiary (my client) based on the terms of the Trust.  The K-1 is marked Final.  So, all of the previous PLC on the TP's 8582 is being released.I am concerned because the property was not sold, it was transferred to my client.  Should this PLC be fully released?  If no, how do I keep it from releasing?

Mom passed away and children sold the house. They received form 1099-S Proceeds from real estate transactions with information attached regarding quitclaim deed (subject to life estate).  Will the transaction be taxable or it is treated as inheritance?Thank you.

Does your state have a lottery? If so, at what rate does it withhold federal tax on major prizes? Internal Revenue Code Section 3404 says: (q)Extension of withholding to certain gambling winnings(1)General ruleEvery person, including the Government of the United States, a State, or a political subdivision thereof, or any instrumentalities of the foregoing, making any payment of winnings which are subject to withholding shall deduct and withhold from such payment a tax in an amount equal to the product of the third lowest rate of tax applicable under section 1(c) and such payment. So what is the third lowest tax rate under Section 1( c)? When I look at it, I see the three lowest rates for years 2018 through 2025 are 10%, 12% and 22%. Yet IRS in its instructions to Form W-2G tells lotteries to withhold at 24%, and that’s what they do here in Arizona. I checked California, and that’s their rate also. Am I missing something? Or is this just another case of “when IRS says jump, we just ask

My client provided a K-1.  Box 16 is checked (Schedule K-3 is attached if checked).  No K-3 is actually attached.  The cover letter that came with the K-1 states: "Schedule K-3 information can be accessed . . . by the end of June 2023 and is not otherwise included"  Do I need to wait to file the return until the K-3 is accessed?  The K-1 information is all zeros.
