I am coming over from Ultra Tax and in Ultra Tax you can print Engagement letters when you print the final return. Therefore when you have the client sign the efile authorization they are both there. I have been sending out client organizers for years and only about ten percent return the organizer. My professional liability insurance requires that I use engagement letters. This would be very helpful.
When entering payer demographic information from 1099, W-2 etc. Population of city and/or state would be helpful and speed up data entry. Also, W-2 upload requires too much information to be entered before population and sometimes no population uploads at all and then manual entry is required after all. Is it possible to upload into the database with just the employer/payer EIN? I belief it was a feature some time ago.
Printing the entire K-1 packet with all states attached at once. Going into each state to print is time consuming.
Please incorporate the functionality of reviewing a tax return inside of ProConnect and using tickmarks to notate individual lines of the tax return.I want to be able to use tickmarks (different colors / shapes) to notate lines as I review: correct, needs attention, will change, etc. Also being able to includes comments with the tickmarks and being able to view/print a sheet of all comments, tickmarks, and the lines they affect on the return as a single document. This is crucial to efficiently review tax returns.
Please don't close e-filing when IRS closes it. The FTB allows e-filing for longer periods of time. Right now, I would like to file an amended CA From 540 for 2020, which as of Aug 22, 2024, is still allowed by the FTB, but not Lacerte. (Older tax preparers will recall the tedious printing, stamping and preparation of Original and As Amended tax returns, worksheets and statements, and finally mailing of the tax returns. This process is at least 10X longer than e-filing.) So, you would be doing a big favor to many California preparers.
I am interested in better alerts to Lacerte updates before I submit an efile and get rejected. I currently check for updates before I submit my first efile of the day. Yesterday, an update came available unbeknownst to me later in the day after already having one successful efile, and my second efile was rejected. When it comes as a rejection, it can mess up the synch of federal and state filings where a state might go through and the federal is rejected. I don't use automatic updating of my software because the timing is not always convenient when I am working. Lacerte used to post an alert at the top of the screen when updates came available. Another idea is to make it part of the error and diagnostic check within efile before you hit submit.
Please support amended CA Single member LLC in programs
Schedule A Part I Column B lists tired partnership income activity to be backed out from federal income in order to arrive at Column C income attributable to the upper tier entity. Column C should be carrying to Form NJ1065 Lines 1 through 11. This is not occurring on the 2023 program. There doesn't seem to be a workaround other than to enter a subtraction on Line 15e.
Box 6 of the 1099-PATR is labeled by the IRS as "6 Section 199A(g) deduction". The Lacerte entry field is still called "DPAD received from specified cooperative" even though that is what box six was used for years ago. The Lacerte help page just says "Boxes 6, 7, 8, and 9Individual module - Scroll down to the Qualified Business Income Deduction section of Screen 16, Business Income (Sch. C) or Screen 19, Farm Income (Sch. F, Form 3845) and enter any adjustments to this activity’s QBI for the income received from a cooperative."Please update the name of the entry field and/or the instructions on the help page so people can figure this out without a huge waste of time due to poor labeling and instructions.
Call Lacerte regarding a billing issue and spoke to Sierra. Hs was such a pleasure to speak and was extremely helpful with the issue I was having.
I have a company admin who is the Chief Tax Officer in our organization as well as an owner. I have her role set to Company Admin and discovered today that she cannot access reports in ProConnect because she is not the Primary Admin. Can access to these reports be added to the Company Admin Role so this department can access stats and reports on their teams performance?
I need to amend a 2021 tax return and cant find the form to fill out.
I am doing the 2023 tax return for an S corporation. They have been around for 6 years, but this is my first time doing their taxes. They witheld and paid no Social security or medicare and filed no W2's.There are 3 family members in the S corporation. Net income before payroll is $78K plus. Last year they did withhold and issued themselves w2's but for very minimal amounts. Well below what I would recommend...25% of the net went to payroll. My question is can I still file a w2 and make back payments on medicare and SS. From what I have, all of the income would be distributed to the owners for tax purposes with no salaries. I know this will trigger the IRS. I'm just not sure what the best path to take is.Thanks,Tom
