This message popped up today. Comments are year specific, and notes get carried over. If Notes goes away, then we have to have the ability to make Permanent Comments that carry year to year.

I have been using notes for years to keep specific client information top-of-mind as we start new returns.  It has been a great place for items that we did  not want to forget one-year later.

Notes have been discontinued for 2025.  So to test, I went back to a 2024 return and copied the note over to "Comments", then transferred the return data to 2025...the comments did not come through.

We NEED a place for client notes to move forward year to year.

Please bring back the NOTE feature!!

If not that, allow the comments to carry forward each year.  (however, this is less desirable because we would still need to find all the old notes, copy, paste and then transfer the returns)

Commenting on my own post because I didn't realize I was logged in under my old Intuit account.

This is seriously a huge issue that is completely unnecessary for Intuit to do. Relabel it Permanent Comment if you want to keep the branding.

When we moved from Drake to ProConnect, I specifically asked the ProConnect team whether they had a notes feature that rolled forward. They confirmed it and demonstrated how it worked. We converted all our clients to ProConnect with this understanding. Now, as I’m cleaning up carryover items, I’ve discovered the Notes section has been removed entirely. We have many notes that need to carry forward, and losing that capability creates major inefficiencies.

Hi @Tbetts94    @Quack_Shot Thank you for taking the time to post about the Notes in the Community. We have some additional information about them:

Prior year notes are currently available within tax years 2024-2019. Comments is the note functionality for new return notes for Tax year 2025 moving forward. The product team is working to make Tax year 2024 notes available read-only within tax year 2025 to help with the transition.

More updates are to come on timeline of release and persistent comments across tax years.

I agree with other comments-We NEED a place for client notes to move forward year to year.

Please bring back the NOTE feature!!

I use notes all the time for important info to carry yhear over year and as I do a tax return , I take notes and then cut and paste to communicate with client.  It was such a straight forward easy system.  Huge detriment to my work flow now.  May change software program if this is not available in future.

Since the Notes feature is now obsolete, the new comments section NEED to be carried forward from year to year, as they contain critical details for all team members to reference when completing a tax return. These notes help maintain accuracy and reduce the risk of overlooking important information that could impact the return.

Our firm also utilizes carryforward notes to indicate the different types of services that we handle for our clients. (i.e. Payroll, bookkeeping, personal returns, business returns, etc.) This allows our team to be able to retrieve information from the appropriate departments within our firm if they have any questions. This is especially helpful with newer staff that don't know all of a client's services and prevents us from reaching out to client's if we already have that information.

I talked with support and they indicated that we would have to copy any comments from prior tax returns to the new comments for the 2025 tax returns for each client individually. This would be extremely time consuming and an inefficient use of time, especially with tax season upon us. There needs to be a better alternative than this.

I have no clue why ProConnect decided that this would be a good feature to remove carryforward Notes, but it needs to come back or have something to replace it that's useful.

Please either bring the notes feature back or allow for comments to carryforward to future tax year's when being proforma.

I fully agree with all said by brandenswain!!!

And it would be helpful to be able to have all the comments in one place, not separate boxes.

This is probably the worst most negatively impactful "upgrade" that Procennect has made in the 15 years I have used the software.

Thanks

Comments are great feature and we need that feature to track interactions between preparers, reviewers and the partners for that year's tax return and don't roll forward to the next year. However, we also need notes that will roll forward from one year to the next to make us aware of items that are specific to this client.  Often, I have notes that are specific for the current year and certain years to come.  These cannot be in comment format.  All staff need access to edit these notes from one year to the next.  If these are in comment format, only the initial person who entered the comment can edit their own comment.  If comments could roll forward, they notes will get messy and useless because good notes are being edited all the time so only applicable information is entered for current and future years. Please bring back notes.  In addition, the notes need to be more viewer friendly.  It needs to have the features of a word document.  FYI: I do like all the other features that are coming online, like invoicing, etc.  Thanks.

Please bring back Notes or allow comments to roll forward from year to year. The Notes are needed so that tax preparers and partners can keep track of specific items pertaining to the client. I agree with Jared and Braden that Notes need to be more viewer friendly and something that easily carries forward.

Please bring back Notes or have comments that roll forward to next year.  The Notes are used by our firm to track client specific information from year to year.
