A client just asked a pretty good question. In this case the client is a k-12 teacher which on it's own has separate issues, but this could be asked of many Americans right now. The question...

Like many people Kirsten is working from home. Is there anything that we should be keeping track of for next year’s taxes?

My question; Can expenses involved in a "Temporary" home office be deducted, and where would they be deducted?

We are not talking depreciation here, just expenses that were fully due to having to "Work at home".

I would assume most people working from home dont have a dedicated area for business only...theyve turned a personal area into dual purpose....and of course they took away the unreimbursed employee expenses on federal anyhow.

That would explain why I couldn't find it...Maybe we should be asking to get it back, lots of people could use it this year.

Probably not. First you have to itemize deductions. Then it was a misc one subject to 2% of AGI. And it had to be regularly and exclusively used.

The more I know the more I don’t know.
