Do we know whether we can wait until July 15 2019 to file form 4868 for 2019, if we need several more months to complete the return?

You can file a 2019 extension on or before July 15, 2020.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

    The 4868 would need to be e-filed by midnight on July 15th. You can e-file it earlier if you know you are going to need more time.
