Why does Profile optimize medical over 13 month period?

I'm running 2020.3.5

I ran sort and optimize of medical expenses over 2 calendar years and the result was a 365 day period that Profile wants me to use. 2019-09-10 through 2020-09-09 which is not legal if I am only allowed a 12 month period (Sep1-Aug31 or Oct1-Sep30). Or am I reading the income tax act wrong?

You can claim any twelve -month period ending in 2020.

2019-09-10 through 2020-09-09 is a twelve month period and ends in 2020 calendar year so is valid.  I don't see 13 months in your examples.

 

Other examples of valid dates are:
 - Jan 2, 2019 to Jan. 1, 2020.  
 - May 16, 2019 to May 15, 2020

 - Dec. 28, 2019 to Dec. 27, 2020

(they don't have to start on the 1st  of the month and end on the last day of the month).
