In the year that one spouse passes is it advisable to do the pension income splitting?

I would normally still do it if it is reduces taxes payable.  The times you would not do the splitting are rare but, for example, if the assets of the deceased taxpayer do not pass to the surviving spouse, and if pension splitting increases the taxes payable by the surviving spouse, you would not want to do it.  But if you are dealing with a simple situation where it is a husband and wife, one dies and the other is the sole beneficiary and (likely) executor, I would do it.
