Question

Entering RL slips for now Ontario resident

My client moved from QC to ON in 2022. She received Releve slips T4A/RL-2 and other RL slips for her pension. Can I consider the tax paid on the RL-2? If so, how and where do I enter it?

Thanks

Dennis

Hi, Dennis

It is my understanding you would consider the taxes showing on the RL-2 as they are paid separately to the province of Québec.  I would make a second column beside the T4A, label it as RL-2, and enter only the taxes.  Profile will not be happy about seeing taxes withheld without any income, but you should then memo the yellow box and hit the preparer sign-off to clear the audit.

This is similar to what I have not when presented with both a RL-1 and a T4.  Essentially I take everything from the T4 and then have a second column where the provincial income tax is added.  For T4's and T4A's from provinces other than Québec, the income tax deducted (box 22 on the T4) is both federal and provincial; for Québec, box 22 is strictly federal tax.

Hope this helps.
