I am PA Based CPA with a Virginia Client - can someone tell me where to enter 529 plan contributions for a child. Are there dollar limits and does it have to be a Virginia based 529? Thanks in advance!

Try this:

Yes, to claim the Virginia 529 state tax deduction, the account must be with a Virginia 529 plan (such as Invest529). Virginia residents can deduct contributions up to $4,000 per account per year, regardless of where the beneficiary lives. The deduction specifically applies to accounts under the Virginia College Savings Plan

To enter Virginia 529 plan contributions in ProSeries, navigate to the Virginia State Return, then open the Adjustments to Income section or the VA 529 Contribution Worksheet to enter the amounts for each beneficiary. Contributions can generally be deducted up to $4,000 per account annually

Steps to Enter VA 529 Contributions in ProSeries:
  1. Go to the State tab and open the Virginia return.
  2. Locate the Virginia Adjustments section.
  3. Look for the Virginia College Savings Plan Worksheet (often titled "VA 529" or similar).
  4. Enter the contributor's name, beneficiary's name, account number, and amount contributed for each plan.
  5. ProSeries will automatically calculate the allowable deduction up to $4,000 per account and apply it to the Virginia return.
