What are open short options at year end (trade date)

Do I need to report losses from short options and if so what form do I use?

If they are Open at year end, they haven't closed at year end.

You report in the year closed - when they are exercised or expire. 

Not sure what "(trade date)" is supposed to mean here.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

    Depends on what kind of options.  If these are options on futures contracts, you may have to "mark to market."
