A client just told me that a friend of theirs that is also a volunteer fire fighter told them to ask me about a tax credit for being a fire fighter?  I know I can list their expenses on the Schedule A for charity, but other than that is there a credit I am unaware of?

There is the $3,000 PSO deduction available from a 1099-R for health insurance and certain states have either a credit or a deduction.

NYS has a credit for volunteer firefighters on the return as long as they are not getting a deduction already on their real estate taxes

not sure what state you are working on

It's not a tax reporting credit. It's supposed to be taken into consideration on the payroll W2 if it applies.
