Question

Using the what if worksheet, there is no child tax credit being calculated for 2026 when there have been no changes. Any ideas?

Could be that they haven't finished updating the what if worksheet............. or they thought it was updated and missed the boat.

IMO,  the what worksheet is a little flakey.  Good for simple returns but annoying for more complex... I generally save a 'what if' copy of my client file and make adjustments to  run different scenarios...

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

I use the tax planner

I use the tax planner as well, but there is also a glitch in the tax planer calculations. I have a taxpayer with 3 children and the credit should be $6600. I ran a calculation to see what the tax would be if they took an IRA distribution. It raised their income to $230K. There should be no limitation at the income level. The planner calculated a Child Tax Credit of $600. It's just wrong. and I don't know why. Programmers need to be more careful.
