The end is near

Yes, some clients initially panic when I tell them I won't get to their tax prep by Apr 15.  They ask 'will I get in trouble' or 'will the IRS want to know why'...which I reply I've been filing my own extension for 30 years.  And then I have my usual list of clients who calmly email me 'extension again, please!'

(I always get sing songy when I'm tired.)

Just don't get me started on "There's a hole in the bottom of the sea."

Is that all?  I thought you were referring to a whole civilization dying tonight.

Au contraire, oh Man of Iron!    for the 3rd straight year, my little area in West Tennessee, has been granted a temporary reprieve from the dreaded April 15 deadline. Winter Storm Fern and its ice storm created unbelievable damage both visually and economically. Trees fell everywhere, blocking roads, and downing power lines.  Very common to hear, "without power for 10 days', or "couldn't get out of my driveway for over a week." Even the very, very, rare sighting of 'Closed for Weather', could be seen on the front door of CPA offices.   Automatic extensions, both Federal & State, to May 22,2026.

Last year, Tornado damage to our next closest town, including its downtown, and we were extended to Nov 3, 2025, to file 2024 Federal returns.  IRS notified us of this at 9 a.m. on April 14th. 

2nd previous year, tornado damage and 7 deaths in our county.  Extended automatically to July 15th, 2024.

So, all you fair-weather friends, just keep burning that midnight oil....and meanwhile, I'll be on the lookout for Jim Cantore!!
