Taxpayer, filing Single with $31,464 in benefits on Form 1040 line 6a. ProSeries calculated the Taxable amount to be zero.

Social Security reported: $31,464

Half of Social Security: $15,732

Other AGI shown on return: about $24,845

So the provisional income is approximately:

$24,845 + $15,732 = $40,577

Each time we see this reported its due to a data entry error on the preparers part...look at the SS benefits worksheet, did that box at the top get checked by accident?

Thank you. The box was checked but I did not check it. Perhaps, Pro Series defaults to checking that box. Anyway, I will look for that in the future.

its not a default, Ive never had it get checked, bt there have been others that have had the same experience as you.....do you tab key or enter key through the screens, or do you mouse from entry to entry? I use my mouse to get from entry box to entry box,  Im wondering if people that hit the enter or tab keys to navigate the pages accidently get this clicked?

I have never had the issue either.  I'm pretty convinced it is pilot error, but Intuit does have the uncanny ability to screw up something like that without trying too hard.
