I have a  mariried joint client that has 5 years of prior years social security benefits ( 2020 to 2024) . for each prior year calculation, proseries basic is not deducted the 32,000 field.  I had to override the fiield.  i manually went back to each year return and added the assdional SSA grioss amount.  I am right on the calculation refund.  there is a $500 savings going with lump sum option.  did i check a wrong box that cauased the $32,000 not to show?

I don’t use basic but it seems like you might have missed a check box somewhere. I’ve never had to override before.

Im not sure what you mean by ‘causing the 32k to not show’...is it not computing the taxable portion?  Look at the top of the SS worksheet is that box checked saying they are a resident of another country?

Are you saying that they received a lump-sum payment in 2025 for that year and five previous years while their appeal was pending?  The payment is taxed in 2025 but there is a special computation to figure the tax based on what would have been paid in the previous years.  I’m not sure if ProSeries Basic has those worksheets, which require input of taxable income and other items from each year’s return.  That worksheet should then compute the tax for each year.  Is that what you are using?  Have you input all the data for the previous years?

Yes. Using Proseries basic and it has the worksheets.

if their income was relatively low in prior years, the SS for those prior years may not have ben taxable, so it wouldnt be taxable in 2025 thats what the lump sum worksheet computes.
