Roth 401k -> Roth IRA 1099R Code H Checks the 1040 Line 4 rollover box

Client has a 1099R showing a Code H rollover from a Roth 401k to Roth IRA.  Entering any amount on Box 1 of 1099-R with Code H in Box 7 triggers the checkbox on the IRA rollover indicator on 1040 Line 4 even those this is not a rollover from an IRA and the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box on 1099 R is not checked.  The program doesn't see this mistake as a problem, but Federal e-file rejects the return.  I think this is a bug.  Before I spend hours with support trying to get them to understand the problem, can anyone recreate this and verify the problem?  I realize you can't e-file, but you can confirm the wrong checkbox on 1040 Line 4 is checked.  If you can replicate it, have you or anyone you know already reported this?

Thanks!

Tom

For anyone seeing this, this is a Proseries bug.  Not sure if/when it will get fixed, but I worked around it by creating a dummy 1099-R with a $1 Code G IRA rollover so that 1040 Line 4b = 1 and e-file doesn't reject having a 4a checkbox checked with no value in 4b.

The moderators were made aware of this last week. Hopefully it’ll get fixed. Glad there’s a workaround.

Hi @IdaPlanner Thanks for posting in the Community about the Roth IRA 1099R Code H checks line 4. This has been reported and is being looked into. We will update this post once we have one. Thanks also for posting a workaround for this!
