REPAYMENT OF MEDICAL BACK TO COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES

Client is PAYING BACK medical coverage  to the county social services in the amount of 500.00 a month..( started doing this in 2020 )  He thinks this is a medical expense he can deduct this year, is that so?

When the client received the medical coverage from the county social services was it a tax-free benefit to this client?

    would say probably 100 percent non costing.    But the county must have figured out they covered the party when they did not qualify and are demanding to cost of the medicaid back.

    I'm doubtful the repayment is deductible as a medical expense. 

    Does this client's itemized deductions actually exceed the standard deduction ?
