ProSeries still can’t e-file Ohio RITA returns… why?

Is there any reason ProSeries still doesn’t support e-filing for Ohio RITA returns?

There are multiple other tax software platforms that handle RITA e-file, yet ProSeries users are still stuck paper filing. At this point, it feels like ProSeries is behind on something pretty basic for firms with Ohio clients.

This isn’t just a minor inconvenience, it creates extra admin work and unnecessary friction in the filing process.

For those using ProSeries:

  • Has anyone heard if Intuit plans to add support?

Genuinely trying to understand if this is on Intuit’s radar, because other platforms seem to have already solved it.

I am happy that ProSeries allows efiling of the amended ohio state return for tax year 2025. I was told that tax year 2026 school amendments will be good to go. Also told efiling RITA will not happen right now

Couldn't agree more.  Our firm processes about 700 1040s/ year and the majority are in Ohio and have RITA returns.  It's getting to the point we are considering changing tax software packages for the 2026 tax year.....

I assume that there are not enough RITA filers using Pro Series to make Intuit spend the time.

The same was true for Philadelphia PA business returns until they finally did it.

Certainly, that is one way to look at it.  However, I have talked with many other Ohio tax preparation firms during CPE seminars, and I know from around town through sports leagues that not being able to e-file RITA and CCA was the number 1 reason those who switched away from ProSeries cited.  So the lack of reasonable functionality has led to a decrease in demand for this feature is another way to look at the problem.

I play tennis with 2 other CPA firm partners in town and they made the switch to UltraTax for just this reason in the last 5 years. This feature and workflow management since their firms were slightly larger than mine.

I have been using Proseries since 2014 and I'm hestitant to change due to the inefficiency that would be caused to lose a new tax software.  However, we are weighing that time vs. the headache caused by clients being given their local packages to mail in and every year some do not open up their packages.  to complete the process.  Despite 4-5 different ways we tell them they need to do something.  Clients just lose focus and assume their tasks are done after the 8879 signed.  We then discovered they missed signing and mailing it in when preparing the following year's return, and the estimates have not been paid in.

So then we have extra work to do to resolve penalties and interest, and defend ourselves with the client, showing them the many ways we tried to alert them to the need to do something.

Maybe if other firms are experiencing the same issue with their clients and engage with this post we can get some movement by Intuit.  Otherwise, we will probably upgrade to a package that allows e-filing locals within the next 1-2 years....
