Question

ProSeries 2025 freezing from almost any option - Hope this helps someone!

I discovered late on 3-17-2026 that anything I tried to do in ProSeries 2025 froze the program and I was unable to do anything that made any changes. For example, if I edited a return when I chose to save the changes, the program froze. When I tried to edit a client letter, the program froze. If I tried to search for a client, the program froze.  We have a networked version and the other computers in the office worked fine. It was only affecting one workstation. I did the normal things including a clean install of that workstation and running ProSeries Tool Hub. After a while on the phone with technical support and no resolution, I decided to work from a different workstation for the time being. In fact, I had to explain to the technical support rep the standard folders that are installed on each workstation with each year. When I changed the default printer on the new workstation, suddenly that workstation had the exact same issue. I found that sometime with either a ProSeries or printer firmware update late on 3-17-2026, something wasn't compatible anymore. I changed the problem workstation to print at a different default printer and everything is back running fine everywhere. The printer in question is a Brother L8900CDW.  I wanted to let the community know in case this happens to you too.

FWIW, I gave up on the PS print to printers at least 10 years ago. My office prints to pdf and then (staff) prints the pdf.  ADOBE does a much better job than PS and I need the PDF for my records anyway.

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround
