Pro Series Error Believed to be Firewall

I get error "that says this action can't be completed because the underlying service is taking longer to respond"

Spoken with support multiple times, they keep pointing to OS problems.  However its all computers at the practice.  I installed PRO23 on a laptop and took it from the practice and it works fine.

I believe this might be the background "news updater" getting blocked but no definitive proof.  Is there a firewall help article out there other than one that deals with the built in windows firewall?

Using Watchguard Firebox.

Hi folks. Please make sure that there is not a third party app interrupting ProSeries functionality, this could be an anti-virus or printer drive app. Try disabling the third party app, updating your software, and then turning the third party app back on. See the ProSeries article Troubleshooting Server Busy, or This Action could not be completed errors in ProSeries. From the Microsoft community see How to temporarily disable antivirus and firewall. Let me know of any updates in the replies below.

I have it happen constantly when my cloud back is running, so I only run that at the end of the day now.

If your anti virus is constantly scanning PS files, that could cause the problem as well.

Sometimes you just need to reboot the computer and that clears the ROM or RAM or whatever resource it is that PS is hogging.

I have noticed it happening more this year. It not only is effecting 2024, but is starting to effect 2023 & 2022 as well.  Could it be a behind the scenes data handling?

I had the same error message on 2024 program this week. Called support and they gave me a link about configuring AV to exclude Proseries 24 . Have no idea what it meant. The girl had no real knowledge. I think it has to do with Intuit loading sales data popups on program. I don't know but it is irritating and I've just started tax work.

"Have no idea what it meant"

That meant the support person believed the issue related to a conflict with your antivirus program.

As an update related to the AV: I completely disabled the AV temporarily and the local firewall.

This issue still was occurring.

Problem has finally been solved after days of troubleshooting and head banging.   The practice has a Watchguard Firebox Firewall.  Part of my troubleshooting was turning off the PC AV and firewall and then disabling the practice firewall.  None of this helped.  After much persistence, it turns out, this particular firewall packet scans for for viruses coming into the practice at the gateway level.  I turned a setting from scan all packets to scan random packets and that seems to have resolved the issue!  Thank you all for your comments.

It happens when something in the background is scanning files, which is why I turn off my cloud backup until the end of the day.

That error happened with me on window 11 and on network computer only. Please try go to Control Panel>>Uninstall a program and uninstall "Microsoft OneDrive". It worked perfect with me in both of my network computer that run the Pro Series.

Hope it help!
