Need to Amend 2025 NYS Partnership Return due to R&E changes

NYS has decoupled from the federal treatment of Research and Experimental expenditures (just recently announced) so I need to amend just the 2025 NYS Partnership return. NYS has provided a notice stating specific codes to use to show the Federal deduction add back and the NYS amortized subtraction. These Codes are not yet in ProSeries. Just seeing if anyone has contacted Proseries already about when they might update the software and/or has an idea on a work around to this so I could still efile the Amended return. Also for the copy of the original return do I need to uncheck the efile boxes to remove the duplicate EIN error in the Efile section? Thanks for any feedback, Dan

Hi @DanCoc thanks for posting in the Community about the missing codes in ProSeries and needing to amend the 2025 partnership return.

We'd recommend reaching out to ProSeries Support to see if these codes are scheduled to be added to the software and whether there's a workaround available in the meantime. They may also be able to assist with the EIN error you're seeing.

Thanks for the recommendation on calling customer support, I called yesterday and shared all of this information with the rep that answered.  Initially she wasn’t sure if this could be reported to the development team, but towards the end of the call she mentioned she was able to get this information reported.  I also called the NYS tax department to get a message through to them that they need to get this information out to the tax software vendors since this was just recentely implemented by them and it impacts 2025 tax year returns.

The update to the NYS  IT-225 has now been made for the NYS personal income tax return (IT-201), the new required codes are able to be selected. However, I need to complete the NYS Partnership Return (IT-204) and the IT-225 tax form in the Partnership software has NOT been updated.  The new Codes are still not showing.  I received an email stating my case has been closed, however I still need the NYS partnership software updated.  Thank You!

Of course there are far more entity returns that need this than individual ones. Intuit is not up to speed, again.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

I looked on the CT-225 (the NYS corporate form for adjustments) and these codes have not yet been added to this form as well yet.

@DanCoc The likliehood is that the codes will not be updated so fast, so plan on waiting or filing a paper return and editing the codes..

In the event that you can efile tbe amendment (or would like to try….  make a backup of your original data file. the Federal 1065 info worksheet Part VI (page 3) mark NY as amended… Correct and complete the IT-204 and you should be good to go….  If you do get an efile error you can try removing the checkmark from the ‘enable conversion error checking’ in the convert/transmit filing options…  I’d give you a 30% chance of efile success.

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

Hi @DanCoc thanks for letting us know that Individual is resolved, however Partnership and Scorp are not. We’re checking into this and will share an update here as soon as we have more information. Thanks for your patience!

Hi Katie, thanks for the reply.  Just to let you know I called Proseries customer service yesterday.  The representative that assisted me stated he was discussing this with someone from technical support; that individual thought all three programs/nys tax forms had been resolved but I tried explaining that only the individual NYS tax form was showing these new codes and the partnership and corporate were not showing these.  The partnership and corporate worksheets that support the IT-225 are different from the individual in the software.  I am up to date on all software updates and I even called another collegue on ProSeries and asked her to check and they are not updated for her either.
