Question

My client lived in MA for January 25 only and then moved to CA. She received a W2 from the job she had in that state. How do I file the State Return?

As a part year resident reporting the MA W-2 as income for that state plus a portion any other income earned during the month of January.

I'm curious though, did she have the same employer in both MA and CA?  Did her W2 show MA wages?  Ultimately, your client was a part-year resident of two states.  Reflect MA income earned while a resident of that state...and do the same for California.

PS...IRonMan, I gave your chocolate to my mail lady.

Scroll down to the bottom of the Fed Info worksheet, there's a section to set up multiple states with an allocation table.
