Anyone know if FTE will be supported on MI return for proseries?  Are we just waiting for an update or will we have to override the entire tax season?

FYI - I was having the same issue and I was told today from ProSeries that I have to call the State to find out how to claim the credit. So, no there will NOT be an update coming. No idea how to e-file these returns now.

If you come up with a way to e-file them, I'd appreciate any insight you may have,

Well this is SO FRUSTRATING because this is a ProSeries issue not a MI issue!  MI will accept efiled returns claiming the FTE credit.  MI does have Form 6072 that need to be completed for the FTE Credit. This is a new form and is not in ProSeries.

I tried to efile one already with overrides to claim the credit and properly add the "payments" and it kicked back.  I hope we have not went backwards in time where we need to mail all tax returns that are claiming the FTE credit.

Here is the error:

"Return Rejected by Taxing Authority.
Error IIT_043: When claiming an amount on MI-1040 line 30, Form 6072 Schedule FTE must be included.
MI-1040, Credit for allocated share of tax paid by an electing flow-through entity is Not Supported.

Please remove all overridden or deleted values, as these are likely to cause issues with electronic filing, and correct any errors. If necessary, make the appropriate change and re-submit this return for electronic filing. However, if the reject continues, you may want to file this return via U.S. Mail. To file your state return, print it and mail to the appropriate taxing authority."

This is directly from the state site:

  • Can a Michigan Individual Income Tax Return (Form MI-1040) or a Fiduciary Income Tax Return (Form MI-1041) that is claiming a Michigan FTE tax credit be e-filed?

Beginning tax year 2022, MI-1040 and MI-1041 can be e-filed.

I agree. ProSeries just left us out to dry.

Did you try attaching 6072? You would have to manually prepare it, which, for most of my clients is not too complicated as they only have one entity to claim the credit for. If ProSeries was adept enough to know we have to attach 6072, why all the 'Not Supported' business - seems no different than the last couple years.

I found that the Total refundable credits and payments did not include the credit when I overrode line 30 and when I tried to override the total line the error was they wouldn't efile it - but I did not try that yet.

I thought that maybe if more people complain ProSeries would fix this, but after my conversation with them doesn't seem to be the case.

Hoping to get some traction on this comment and have proseries update their software!  This is so frustrating as when you manually put the amount in line 30, it doesn't even add in line 34!  Please comment if this is also a point of frustration for you as to make ProSeries aware of their absurd lack of professionalism on this one!

Has anyone called Proseries to escalate the issue?

This is definitely a serious filing issue for Michigan returns. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
