Question

MA Individual Return w/RI Income

I have a MA resident who works for one company in both MA and RI.  Total income is $750k.  W2 shows $250k to RI (as it should) and also the full $750k to MA.  The MA return is showing the proper federal AGI of $750k, however, on Pag 2 Line 3, it's showing $1M in wages.  The only fix I see is going back to the W2 and change the amount reported to MA from $750k to the correct $500k.  But I would think there'd be an adjustment on MA return to do that so that I am not messing with the W2.  Thoughts??

There is not an option to adjust this without "messing with the W-2"  This is currently being looked into.  If you do adjust the W-2, the tax liability on the MA form is correct.  If this does cause an e-file matching issue, the return may need to be mailed in if it needs to be submitted before adjustments to the program are made.
