LODI (Line of Duty Injury) Pay

Client has W2 with the following entries. They had a significant amount of LODI pay placed in Box 14 however, the issue is that I am getting an error stating that Box 17 is invalid for E-filing because it is greater than 50% of the state wages. Same for Box 19. The error there is that it is greater than box 1.

At this point, I am thinking that the W2 is probably wrong. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Box 1: Wages: $1,900

Box 2: Federal Tax: $12,500

Box 3: SS Wages: $5,255

Box 4: SS Tax: $326

Box 5: Medicare Wages: $5,255

Box 6: Medicare Tax: $76

Box 14: LODI: $105,000

Box 16: Wages: $1,900

Box 17: State Tax: $5,300

Box 18: $1,900

Box 19: $3,800

I think you will need to paper file.

Apparently tax was withheld in nontaxable pay.

When withholding is >50% of taxable wages you can't efile.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Maybe the LODI determination was made after the pay periods when the tax was withheld because it was not known how much would be nontaxable.  IRS trusts e-filing, only so far.
