J1 & J2 MISTANKLEY FILED JOINTLY AS RESIDENT
Hi to all. A couple on J-1 and J-2 visas mistakenly filed jointly as residents. I understand that if a couple qualifies as residents and files jointly, they have until the due date to amend their return if they change their minds. However, in this case, the couple are J-1 and J-2 visa holders who are still within their two-year exemption period and should have filed separately using Form 1040-NR. How can I correct their mistakenly filed joint resident return?
