Question

Is anyone else getting error notices that an action can't be completed because the underlying service is taking longer to respond. Please retry after some time.

Can you be more specific? What action when you received the error?   Underlying service  often relates to operating system or a conflict.  Check services in task manager

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

I just got this error. And received it several times yesterday and in prior days. Very irritating. It comes at no predictable time, although at least once it came while toggling from the NY State Tax Summary to the Federal Tax Summary.

Ive seen people that say they've fixed this by running the Repair option on the ProSeries Shared Components in Windows Add/Remove Programs.

Once I excluded the PS data files from my anti virus and only run my cloud backup at the end of the day, I dont see it much anymore so I havent tried the fix.

I had this issue for 4 days straight. Finally came into the office today and it has been fixed. Not sure if it was something I did or if there was a patch that fixed it. What I did do was the following: Turned off all my workstations including my server overnight. 1st thing in the morning I ran Proseries repair updates on all my workstations. Logged in to Proseries and I no longer have gotten this message (usually happened when I clicked on the "tax Summary") Anyways you might as well and try this see if it helps.

Concur - received when toggling to Summary pages.  Received several updates recently, have not noticed issue this weekend, hopefully "fixed" 🙂

As of 03/02/26 it's back. Whatever today's update did - it screwed it up. On both Fed and State Tax Summary. Annoying.

Yes, we have been battling this for a few days also. Our computer tech support people, not Intuit support, have been helping with it but they have been stumped too. Later yesterday and so far today ours are working properly again. Our problem is worst when we use the $ummary function within the software but we have also had the same message when opening the software.

Anyone having issues today updating the software to latest version so that you can efile a return.

System will not do an update in the Proseries Updater and gets stuck on initialization.

“This action can not be completed because the Underlying service is taking longer to respond. Please retry after some time. If the problem persists, reach out to your customer support.”

What the heck is the Underlying service?

Customer support can NOT help as it’s a Programming Issue!

Very tired and frustrated of the popup message.

It Never happened in any other year except now in 2025 Proseries. It’s appears to be a Programming issue that Proseries REFUSES to fix!

Blames it on Windows and everyone else!

Reduced IT settings (AV/Protection services from software and Comcast setting to low) and it does NOT work.

Uninstalling then Reinstallling does NOT work.

IT guy can NOT figure out what to do. Nothing was changed in the settings or ports.

Win 11 Updates can NOT be turned OFF, Only Delayed, which is probably the Problem. NO idea what Changes are made with the Win 11 Updates!

Can’t say any worse or be told by Admin of language and possibly banned!

Yes - how did you resolve the problem

It usually happens when ProSeries is downloading updates in the background.  You just have to wait it out.

When it happens, look down in the bottom right corner systray and click the up arrow, you’ll more than likely see a little Intuit icon spinning, thats the background updates doing its thing.
