IRS Notice CP53E Notice of Missing bank info

I have several clients getting a CP53E notice saying the IRS couldn't direct deposit their 2025 refund when there was no refund due the client.

One client had an overpayment that we applied to their 2026 estimates & the other client had a balance due on their return.

Anyone else seeing this?

Yes. There is another thread or two about this.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

I had just had same  with overpayment applied to ES.  Told client to disregard,

Also had one with refund turned out was deposited…. No idea what’s triggering them

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

The cuts at the IRS has staffing down to three people, a cat, and a dog.  They are all doing their best, but the cat and the dog really struggle trying to use a computer keyboard.
