INDIANA- STATE ONLY EFILE

I have a client that requires an IP PIN to e-file the Federal return. He does not have the PIN number this year and is an older client that does not do anything by computer and not able to obtain it. He is a farmer so we mailed the Federal return and as we were always able to in past years, planned to e-file the Indiana return.

Well, it is getting rejected due to the Federal return not being in found/ accepted prior to filing the state. This will be the 16th year using ProSeries and have been able to file the Indiana return as a Stand alone return no problem. When I call the support line, they tell me that it has to be a piggyback return (regardless that their own websites say it can be a piggyback or a stand along return). They told me that a Federal return is required to be file with or prior to and be accepted before Indiana will be accepted which has not changed from prior years.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a way to get the state to be accepted as a stand alone return, as we have been able to in the past?

Hi @ElizabethWatler Thanks for posting in the Community about being unable to e-file IN without federal. We do see that IN is piggyback/state only per our Support article. We’ve requested that the article be updated, as the current e-file steps referenced there apply specifically to ProConnect Tax.

If you’re still unable to e-file, we recommend comparing this year’s return to last year’s to see if there are any differences that might be affecting the filing.

If the issue continues after that review, the next best step would be to reconnect with Support so they can take a closer look at your file, see if anything has changed for e-file requirements and get it reported if need be.

@ElizabethWatler

I am getting the same rejection message when trying to e-file a standalone Indiana state return.

@Kathi_at_Intuit     Can you please check into this?    It seems the program is not recognizing that on the Federal Information Worksheet the box for File Federal Return electronically  is not checked.     I even made sure to mark the box in Part V of the Indiana Information Worksheet that there would not be a federal return filed.

@dkh Since this community is designed for peer-to-peer resource sharing, our technical team doesn't monitor these threads for troubleshooting. We do need you to reach out to our support team directly, even if you’ve already shared the details here. Our support specialists need a formal ticket, a clear summary of the topic and a client case file to investigate the behavior you're seeing. They have the tools to determine if it’s a quick fix, a change in instructions, a new unexpected behavior or one we’re already reviewing.

Reporting it through the proper channel ensures your specific case gets documented and addressed by the people who can fix it.

Help us help you by heading over to ProSeries Support so we can take a closer look!
