Question

If I mistakenly filed a dependent and forgot to check that he was being claimed by parents, Can I supersede his return and then file the parents?

Parent's return was rejected because I forgot to check off that parents are claiming him. Will superseding his return correct it. If so how long should I wait to transmit parents return?

I think we've all done it at least once......that superseded/amended kid return will take months and months and months to complete processing, you may as well cut your loss of time now and paper file the parents.

FWIW, that's the first thing I do now when preparing a dependent return, check those 'Are you being claimed' boxes, before I even enter their name or address and get distracted!   And I still dont always trust it and I EF the parents return first!

I'll try to avoid that make mistake again. Thank you for your reply. It's nice to know I'm not the first to do it.
