How to set up IRS Interest rates missing on Tools menu

2024 Pro Series Professional calculates these amounts on the Late Penalties and Interest Worksheet in the client's federal return.

To get these amounts to calculate:

  1. From within a client's 1040 return:
  2. From the Tools menu select Options.
  3. Select Miscellaneous from the left side of the screen.
  4. Scroll down to IRS Interest Rates for Underpayment of Taxes.
  5. Enter the current interest rates.
  6. These rates will flow to the Late Penalties and Interest Worksheet.

The problem is that on the Options, Miscellaneous is missing from the selection. There is no selection to set up the IRS & State interest rates for underpayment.

You have to have a client file open to get the Misc options under Tools, you cant be in Homebase.

This is probably a dumb question but.....

Is there any logical reason that ProSeries does not impute the quarterly noncorporate underpayment interest rates into its tax software (via updates for at least the last 3 years of tax products) as the rates are issued by the IRS?

Just curious.

If I had to GUESS, one factor might be that they don't want to imply that their calculations are accurate.  Especially with so many disaster extensions that change the due dates.

Another reason could be that I don't think TurboTax is able to calculate interest, so Intuit doesn't put much effort into doing that for ProSeries.
