Question

How do I efile for a NR for Oklahoma in ProSeries? It is requiring a county from the drop down.

ProSeries is showing an error and requiring an entry from the drop down for an Oklahoma county, but the taxpayer does not and has never lived in OK. It will not let me override and rejects if I just pick a random county.

Look at the state information page and see if NR is marked or it defaults to resident

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

Yes, NR is marked.

The form itself seems to ask for the county of the taxpayer's address (which presumably is outside Oklahoma).  It forces you to pick an Oklahoma county?  Is there a blank choice at the top, or end of list?

No choice for N/A or anything of the sort. ProSeries support also cannot figure out a workaround.

Days like this I'm happy I file paper returns.

If you are filing a nonresident your client must have income from OK. use the county the income is from

If your client is receiving 1/64 of the royalties from property she inherited decades ago, the wells might be in three counties but she should really keep track of this for you even if it's less than a thousand dollars before tax.

Even if the nonresident return requires only county of residence.

My take on this, pick a county of your choice from the drop down list, attach a note explaining what you are doing and why. This will get rid of the error message to allow you to e-file and the OTC will be able to figure it out.
