Form 8829 Simplified Home Office deduction for 2025

The amount has increased from $5.00 per sq. ft previously to $6.00 /sq. ft for 2025. The Intuit Form 8829 does not reflect this increase. I have discussed this with Intuit staff and all I received was an email telling me the amount of $5.00 is correct according to their articles and publications (which they sent me a copy of).

Not encouraging. What other details do they have wrong??

IRS Home Office Deduction 2025: How to Calculate It

You have two ways to calculate your home office deduction:

1. The Easy Way: The Simplified Method

  • 2024: Deduct $5 per square foot (up to 300 square feet), with a maximum deduction of $1,500.
  • 2025: The rate increases to $6 per square foot, raising the max deduction to $1,800. That’s an extra $300 in savings!

You seem to have picked that up from a post more than a year ago from a CPA in Minnesota.  Not that they ever make mistakes, but a month later they posted something different.

Now I know why software cost went up.  Intuit has to pay people to take phone calls from customers who believe everything they read on the Internet.

I find it rather odd that you are willing to look at random websites and believe them to the point of arguing with Intuit, rather than looking at the Schedule C Instructions for 2025.
