Form 4868

I have a new client that hasn't filed their 2024 taxes. Their previous tax preparer filed form 4868 for 2024. The client provided the Submission ID from the IRS. How do I get that information onto my version of their tax return? Or, do I even need to worry about it since the IRS has the Form 4868 on file? I just don't want to file this tax return and have it seem like the client didn't do anything.

Unless they made a payment with the extension that needs to be entered on the Tax Payments worksheet, theres nothing else you need to do... at this late of a date, the IRS either has the extension or it doesn't, there's nothing that shows up o the tax return anywhere about the extension unless there was a payment to include.

If YOU Efiled the 4868, the Form 9325 would indicate it, but if they filed it themselves or someone else filed it, the 9325 wont show it.

Unless a payment was made with the extension, there's nothing to do (at least re: the submission ID info).

In Lacerte, there's a place to tag that the extension was filed - but that's mainly to get the correct wording onto the letter.  I would guess PS has the same procedure.  @IRonMaN ?  @Just-Lisa-Now-  ?

I would also call up the Interest and Penalty Worksheet and complete that as apprprirate to avoid taxpayer receiving an additonal bill.
