Error message on 1040X: Ofrl1-8 is marked as estimated

Problem: I was getting 8 error messages on my amended return (1040X), and they are all the same except for a variation of the Ofrl  #s. The errors were not linked to a particular box on the 1040X or the 1040, so I could not locate and correct the source of the error.

After running the error check function, I did not see anything that was still marked estimated on the 1040X or 1040 that was linked to an error.

Cause: I believe this occurred because some items on the 1040 were marked estimated at the time I set up the 1040X. After removing the estimated items on the 1040, the 1040X errors remained and there was no way to remove them for e-filing.

Solution: I deleted the 1040X while leaving the 1040X e-file amended return box checked. Then I opened a new 1040x form in the same tax return and selected the tax year to activate the 1040x form. The 1040x automatically populated with the correct numbers after selecting the tax year to be amended. The only items that had to be re-entered were the refund applied to the next year’s tax and the explanation for filing the 1040X. I hope this information is helpful to others in the future.
