But I signed the form last year, why do I have to do this every year. Can't it just be a forever form?

In the TV show The West Wing Toby had a line, "There is literally no one in the world that I don't hate right now".  That might apply to my clients too.

Honestly, I wish it was too!

I would love to have a form that they sign the first year and that we can add line items to such as "texted authorization on 4/10/26 for tax year 2025" or whatever.

I like the ones that think they're helping by downloading an 8879 from IRS and signing it all blank and include it with their papers...yea it doesnt work that way  LOL

… in the dark ages (beginning of efile) form 8453 was also used to mail wet signature 8879s to the IRS (if you checked the wrong box in the software)… I did this (until I discovered my mistake) A year or so later, I received a letter from the IRS requesting about 8 forms I must have neglected to mail.  i promptly returned the forms and never heard anything else.

Since then, I have dutifully collected and retained  tens of thousands of 8879s in anticipation of another communication from the IRS….

I confess that I may occasionally risk the $65 fine and miss one for a senior who is housebound …. CAGMC
