Direct Deposit Not Allowed for 2023 Paper Filed Amended Return

I'm amending a 2023 tax return that I did not prepare. Since I don't have all the detail entries needed to enter for e-filing, the client will have to paper file the amended return.

Direct deposit information is not allowed on the 1040-X since the return isn't being e-filed.

I know the IRS wants all refunds to be direct deposited now. Does anyone know how to get the direct deposit information to appear on the 1040-X?

You can’t. Their instructions clearly state no direct deposit for paper amended.

Thanks. I thought they changed that effective September 2025 - they no longer want to send refund checks.

I guess the taxpayer will get one of those letters asking for their direct deposit info....
