client claims her father as a dependent, he died 8-2024, does client have to claim his 1099r-s he received on her tax return the distribution code is 4.  Thank you so much

If a 1099R was issued to her, she claims it on her return.  If a 1099R was issued to dad, it goes on his return.

We have a tax on income, not pieces of paper.  Who got the money?  The "4" may mean it was a survivor pension paid to him.  But if the 1099 has her name and SSN, that's a clue that the check was payable to her also.

Thanks for the reply.  just to be clear, since taxpayer claims deceased parent on her tax return as a dependent, and the 1099r's received are in his social security number, taxpayer stated that she used this money for his burial. Should she claim this on her tax return and still claim him as a dependent  or do a completely new one for deceased parent.

No, it doesnt go on her return.  How much did he get?  Does he still qualify as a dependent?
