Claiming donations when not being able to itemize

Hello,

I entered in my client's donations, they do not have enough to itemize. I do not see that it's subtracting their donations from their income. Is there somewhere else I am supposed to enter or a box to check?

Effective for 2026 returns, not 2025.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

I'm thinking multiple counters may be needed this filing season.

There is no place for it in the tax year or 2025 except when itemizing.  But there will be in 2026 with a cap on the amount.  ( and ofcourse the balance can be taken on the itemized schedule A if they have enough to do that)  Tell them to save all their donation receipts this year for the upcoming year.

And... (in case someone remembers next year) this only applies to CASH (ck, ccard..) donations.  It doesn't apply to non-cash donations to Goodwill, etc.

So reminding your clients (those that don't normally do so because they don't itemize) to keep track of those for 2026 is a good idea.
