Question

Can no longer e-file Form 7004 extension after 3/17/2025?

In the past I was able to e-file the 7004 late, past the original due date of the business return.  This year however, I get a red error saying that it failed Final Review.  In the final review it shows that you cannot e-file 7004 past 3/17/25.

We have e-filed extensions late in the past through Proseries, but this year it is not working.  Am I missing something that needs to be checked off, or is my only option to Print and Mail the 7004 instead??

Is this a fiscal year return with a due date other than 3/17/25?

Are you trying to resubmit one that was submitted on 3/17/25 and rejected?

The more I know the more I don’t know.

This is a regular fiscal year Form 1120S for S Corp  and Form 1065 for LLC/Partnership that has original tax filing deadline of 3/17/2025 this year.

The tax returns have not been prepared or filed yet, so we need to file an extension, however the Form 7004 is saying you cannot efile an extension through Proseries past 3/17/2025.

In the past we have been able to submit and e-file the 7004 in Proseries,  well beyond any due date of the original tax returns or extension due dates.  This year however, it is failing during the e-filing and cannot be converted/transmitted.  Everything in the 7004 and EF Info worksheet has been filled out correctly and it's ready to e-file, but it keeps getting rejected by Proseries saying that it's failing Final Review (and that "failure" is that it's past the 3/17/25 original deadline)

I am trying to figure out if this is new for 2025 that you can no longer do this electronically through Proseries past the original deadline, or if there may be another area/checkbox/process that I am missing in order to submit these 7004's electronically.

What are you thinking that you are accomplishing by filing an extension for a return that is already late?

after wasting an hour NO you can NOT file 7004 online.  Was that so hard INTUIT!!!      INTUIT IS NOT on the gov-approved file online 7004.

So easy to add this.  Pay $149 for the product on AMAZON,  Why is it cheaper there?

And you can build that into the program?   And then you are embarrassed that it does not have that...so you bury the answer in nonsensical help menus.

@vandermeyj

Why do I think you are NOT really using ProSeries?

And never ever have I seen a professional tax prep software for sale on Amazon.
