attach pdf to amended 1040

Has anyone tried attaching a pdf file to an amended return? I keep getting the message that the selected client's return does NOT contain PDF file attachments and the return has already been transmitted. Therefore I assume it is not possible but thought I'd put the question out here to see if I'm missing something?

Probably not possible, what are you attaching?   Cant it be explained enough in the explanation area?

I'm amending for research and development credits and there is a 45 page document that needs to go with it. The document is 2M in size so it's probably borderline anyway. I'm going to plan to file paper, which I already know will take forever to process so I have informed the clients of such.
