It depends.

This is probably short term disability.

Did the employee pay the premiums with after tax dollars? Or pretax?

Did the employer pay the premiums and not include in taxable wages?

The more I know the more I don’t know.

The income was reported on a 1099-MISC

If the TP (taxpayer) paid the insurance premiums with after tax dollars it is not taxable.

If the TP paid the through their employer or before taxes (pretax), then it is taxable.
